An algorithmic approach to the comparison of phylogenetic trees and networks by António Pedro Branco MSc project presentation and discussion. Phylogenetic analysis attempts to accomplish such goal through the study of phylogenetic trees. An important aspect of this research area is to know the similarities between the trees, which can be defined in multiple ways. However, most of the metrics that define those similarities are limited to specific phylogenetic trees and are computationally expensive to re-obtain in case the tree is slightly modified. This work presents a new approach to compare trees that have more complex structures.
